TRAVIS, Jr. Presley Lee "P.L." Travis, Jr., 86, a retired real estate broker of Richmond, passed away on December 5, 2005. He was born in Dendron, Virginia, of November 23, 1919. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jean Daniel Travis; one daughter, Yvonne Lee Travis of Richmond; one son, Presley Lee Travis, III and daughter-in-law, Diane, of Louisa; six grandchildren, William T. Ludwig and wife, Donna, Daniel T. Mulligan, Jack D. Ludwig, III, all of Richmond, Brandon C. Travis and wife, Twila, Ashley Travis and Presley Lee Travis, IV; two great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Austin Travis, all of Louisa; one stepdaughter, Vickie L. Johnson; one step-granddaughter, Brenda Lee Johnson; and two sisters, Ersell T. Brinser and Betty Page Collier. Mr. Travis was preceded in death by his first wife, Ximenia R. "Toosie" Travis; his parents, Lelia Blythe Travis and Presley L. Travis Sr.; and his sister, Beulah T. Brinser. Before entering the Navy, he was employed as store manager for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company at 18th and Broad. He served during World War II as a Naval Aviation Aerial Gunnery Instructor stationed at Naval Air Station, Livermore, California. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1945, he became a managing partner in Travis Oil Company, and an Amoco distributor, later serving as real estate manager with the American Oil Company for Amoco's Richmond District. In 1959, and for 33 years, he established and operated Travis Realty Company, managing commercial properties in the Richmond metro area. Prior to selling his real estate business, he was awarded a life membership in the Richmond Board of Realtors. He was a member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church for 75 years, where he served as president of the Men's Bible Class, chairman of the Finance committee and chairman of the trustees for 18 years. Mr. Travis was a member of the SoKi Club, past president of the Manchester Lions Club 1993-1994, past president of the Manchester Gang in 1989, past chairman of the board of the South Richmond- Chesterfield Central Fidelity National Bank (now Wachovia), past director of the Cerebral Palsy Center, the Richmond Board of Realtors and the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Manchester Lodge No. 14 A.F.& A.M., Urbanna Lodge No. 83 A.F.& A.M., where he received his membership certificate and pin for having completed 50 years on the Masonic Fraternity, a former member of Scottish Rite Bodies and Acca Temple, past board member of the Chesterfield Historical Society, past president of Bon Air, Inc. parent company of Citizen Savings & Loan who later merged with Central Fidelity Bank, past member of the Board of Zoning Appeals of Urbanna, secretary of the United Methodist Men of Urbanna United Methodist Church, a member of the Board of Directors for Hathaway Tower Corporation serving as Activity Director in 2003- 2004 and Vice-President of the Board for 2004-2005, member of Saints and Sinners Club of American and the Old Dominion Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Avenue. A memorial service with Masonic memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, December 11, at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, 7151 Belmont Road, Chesterfield. In lieu of flowers, P.L. requested that any contributions be made to Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, Chesterfield, Va. of Urbanna United Methodist Church, Urbanna, Va. Presley Lee "P.L."
