Born in Dendron, Va., Evelyn was the daughter of Robert Fulton Faison and Harriet Davis Faison. She was a lifelong Peninsula resident and retiree of Nachman's Department Store, Millenary Department. She was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years. Thomas F. Whiteman; her sisters, Mildred Garrett, Katherine Greco, Charlotte Bruggs, Harriet Davis Whitmore; and a brother, Robert Fulton Faison, Jr. She is survived by three sons, Robert Fielding Whiteman, and his wife, Brenda, of Yorktown, Va., Douglas Faison Whiteman and his wife, Tina, of Toronto, Canada, and Thomas Cameron Whiteman of Newport News, Va.; six grandchildren, Robert F. Whiteman, Jr., Edmund Lewis Whiteman, Rebecca Anne W. Platt, Adrian Whiteman, Harriet Whiteman and Angel Murphy; seven great- grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Bloxom and Barbara Seward; and one brother, Wallace Faison. A graveside service will be held a 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, in Peninsula Memorial Park, with Rev. John Burtis officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, in Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 235 Harpersville Road, Newport News, VA 23601, or to Dendron Baptist Church, General Delivery, Dendron, VA 23839.
