She was a daughter of the late A.H. Lowe, Sr. and Virgie Bailey Lowe. Mrs. Whitmore was the oldest member of Rocky Hock United Methodist Church where she faithfully served for many years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be missed by all who knew her. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Joel Claude "Boots" Whitmore, Jr.; brothers, Alvin H. Lowe, Jr., Vernon V. Lowe, and George Franklin Lowe, Sr., and a sister, Violet Lowe Smith. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Donald C. Whitmore, Sr. and his wife, Jean and A. Keith Whitmore and his wife, Donna; grandson, Donald C. Whitmore, Jr. and his wife, Cheryle; granddaughter, Terri Whitmore Pittman and her husband, Jeremy; great-grandsons, Thomas W. Jones, Jr. and Trenton W. Jones; great-granddaughters, Mary Elliott and Shelby Elliott, as well as many other family members and friends. The family will receive friends tonight, Monday, September 30, 2019 at Rocky Hock United Methodist Church, 2745 White Marsh Rd. Wakefield, VA 23888 from 6 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the church with Rev. Cliff Fritzinger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Rocky Hock UMC Cemetery perpetual care fund, c/o Richard Andrews, 4899 White Marsh Rd., Wakefield, VA 23888. Condolences may be posted at www.rwbakerfh.com. ****************************************************************************** ROCKY HOCK CHURCH BULLETIN - GAYNELLE LOWE WHITMORE 1928 - 2019 At the time of her death, Gaynelle was the oldest living member of Rocky Hock Church. She served her church faithfully her entire life and was active in its Bible School as well as being responsible for preparing the Communion Service for Communion Sunday for many years. Over the years Gaynelle taught children classes, and helped organize many social and receptions. (Her chocolate meringue pie and homemade ice cream were sought-after favorites each year at the Rocky Hock Lawn Party!) She loved to cane chairs and refinish furniture. Many pieces of furniture in the church were refinished in part by Gaynelle. Gaynelle was one of five children of Alvin and Virgie Lowe. She was born and raised in the Rocky Hock community where she resided her entire life. Gaynelle was married to J.C. "Boots" Whitmore for 70 years. Together they raised two sons, and were blessed with 2 grandchildren and several great- grandchildren. Gaynelle was laid to rest in Rocky Hock Cemetery.
