Mrs. Whitmore had been a resident of West Point for forty years. She was born in Surry County, daughter of Harriet and Fulton Faison. After graduation from Dendron High School, she was employed by Newport News Shipyard. In 1951, she married her husband, Thomas Whitmore, Jr., founder of Whitmore Chevrolet. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in West Point. She is survived by her husband, Thomas B. Whitmore Jr.; two daughters, kay w. Johnson and husband, Bruce of King William, and Sandy W. Brooks of Williams; a son, Thomas Whitmore III and wife, Kitty of Williamsburg; six grandchildren, Jason and Austin Johnson, Ryan Brooks, Whitney, Jordan and Thomas Whitmore IV; five sisters, Catherine Greco of Waverly, Evelyn Whiteman of Newport News, Charlotte Grubbs of Gloucester, Frances Bloxom of West Point, and Barbara Seward of Richmond; two brothers, R.F. Faison, Jr., of Surry and Wallace Faison of Dendron. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, West Point with Rev. Marvin Kerby officiating, assisted by Rev. Philip Hart. Burial in West Point Cemetery. Family will received friends 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to West Point Volunteer Fire & Rescue squad, Inc., Box X, West Point of to the American Cancer Society, c/o Bob Knott, Box 713, West Point, Va., 23181.
