FUNERAL SERVICES JOHN W. WHITMORE 

PROMINENT DENDRON RESIDENT PASES AWAY AT HOME THERE 

  DENDRON, July 16, The funeral of Mr. John Wesley Whitmore, age 75 years, 
who died at his home in Dendron a few days ago, was held by Rev. E.B. White, 
pastor of the Dendron Christian Church.  Interment was in the cemetery at 
Union Christian Church.

  On February 5, 1880, the deceased was happily married to Miss Nettie Rebecca 
Andrews, by whom he is survived.  He is also survived by six children, Mrs. 
B.J. Goodrich, and Mrs. C.H. Goodrich, of near Rocky Neck; Mrs. G.W. Goodrich 
and Mr. W.O. Whitmore, of Dendron, Mrs. F.A. Hargrave, of Petersburg and Mrs. 
R.J. Hargrave of near Dendron, and twelve grandchildren.

  He is also survived by the following half-brothers: E.A. Whitmore of 
Petersburg; W.E. Whitmore of Wakefield; and J.P Whitmore of Newport News.

  The pallbearers were E.T. Atkinson, J.T. Dickerson, G.S. Clark, D.J. 
Presson, W.S. Barrett and J.D. Emery.  Honorary - W.H. Savedge, E.L. Hart, 
Alfred Brittle, Rossie Carroll, Harry Goodrich, E.H. Gladden, Clarence 
Stallings, R.C. Glazebrook, Orvid Goodrich, Garland Goodrich, Jeff Falson, 
Crawley Maynard and Joe Presson.

interred in Union Christian Church Cemetery*, Surry, 12 Jul 1929,

Birthdate &c. from D.Cert. #19033 (Dendron #7), which gives 
   sn/o Claudius Wesley Whitmore & Eugenia Ellis, all b. Va.; 
   the informant was his widow. 

*His parents are also buried there.  His gravestone is pictured with his 
   Find a Grave Memorial, #52429550.  His mother's Memorial, #52429257, 
   gives Eugenia Ann (Atkinson) Whitmore [correct; m. 30 Nov 1858 Sussex Co.].
