WHITMORE SUCCUMBS AT 80 SURRY - Joel Claude Whitmore Sr., 80, of Surry County, died Wednesday at his residence. He was a retired farmer. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nina Branch Whitmore; four sons, S. Aubrey Whitmore, W. Grady Whitmore and J.C. Whitmore, Jr., all of Wakefield, and J.B. Whitmore of Smithfield; two daughters, Mrs. Frank W. Jones of Surry and Mrs. Julian R. Harrison of Waverly; two brother, G.T. Whitmore and M.B. Whitmore, both of Newport News; two sisters, Mrs. C.G. Goodrich and Mrs. R.A. Carroll, both of Wakefield; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Rocky Hock Methodist Church cemetery. The Rev. Edward B. Owen, pastor of Bethlehem Christian Church in Suffolk will officiate.
