Wilson gave the land for the original part of Rocky Hock Cemetery. Approximately 55 years ago the cemetery was enlarged when some of the churchyard was added to the cemetery. Mrs. Joel Claude Whitmore, Sr. (Nina) donated land in the early 1980s for the latest expansion (the northwest side) of the cemetery. In 1891, William E. Whitmore ("Boots'" grandfather) purchased the farm from which the original cemetery was created. His son, J.C. Whitmore, Sr., bought the farm from his father. In 1921, J.C. Whitmore, Sr. married Nina Gladys Branch and they had one child, J.C. Whitmore, Jr. ("Boots"). After marrying and moving to the Whitmore farm, Nina moved her church membership from Millfield Baptist Church to Rocky Hock Methodist Church, where she remained a loyal member for many years. Nina was a school teacher when she and her future husband met, and this carried over into her church life. For many years she taught in the children's church school, she was head of the children's department of the church, she was active in Vacation Bible School, and especially enjoyed the Easter egg hunts for the children. She also was an active member of the UMW. She and her husband are both buried in Rocky Hock Cemetery. Thanks to "Boots" and Gaynelle Whitmore for the information and photograph.
