Born in Surry County, he was a machinist at Newport News Shipbuilding until his retirement in 1956. He was a member of Union Christian Church, Surry. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Allie Tench Whitmore, a daughter, Mrs. Hildred Whitmore Drummond of Newport News, a sister, Mrs. Karl Hudgins of Newport News, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Peninsula Funeral Home by the Rev. R.E. Brittle of Union Christian Church. Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family is at the residence. His in-laws, Alfred James & "Kittie" Hildred (SEWARD) TENCH, are buried in Moore's Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery. (Find a Grave Mem. #102496533 &c.) Her D.Cert. 5414 (Richmond #757) gives her husband as Thomas Bryant WHITMORE; buried in Wakefield.
