WILLIAMS Charles Shirley Williams, 80, a Dendron merchant for 60 years, died in the home of his sister Mrs. Odie W. Blanchard in Portsmouth, Friday, June 23 at noon after a brief illness. A native of Prince George County, he had made his home in Elberon, Surry County, for 60 years. He retired in January. He was a son of Charles and Mary Elizabeth Vaughan Williams, a member of Dendron Methodist Church and Jefferson Masonic Lodge No. 65 of Surry. Besides his sister, he is survived by a brother, B.C. Williams of Prince George, and seventeen nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at Purviance Funeral Chapel Sunday, June 25 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. E.R. Alexie, pastor of Surry Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Wakefield Cemetery. Masonic rites were held at the grave by Jefferson Masonic Lodge No. 65 A.F. & A.M. with W.M. Ernest, W. Goodrich, presiding. Pallbearers were his nephews; C.T. Simmons, H.F. Simmons, G.W. Simmons, J.W. Simmons, B.R. Simmons and H.W. Blanchard.
