A lifelong resident of Surry County, he was the son of Mr. William H. and Mrs. Virginia L. Andrews Williams. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Bertha Holdsworth Williams. Mr. Williams was a senior deacon of the Dendron Christing Church and served as secretary of the Sunday school for over 40 years. He was also a former employee of the Surry Lumber Company and a retired merchant. His survivors include one son L. Thurman Williams, Dendron; one sister, Mrs. Mary W. Hockaday, Fredericksburg, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 23, at 2:30 p.m. in Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, with the Rev. H.E. Crutchfield and the Rev. James W. Madren officiating. Serving as pallbearers were J. Harvey Price, William H. Brice, Garland Spratley, Stanley Cooper, J.B. Johnson, Jack Pittman, M.B. Joyner and Garland Morris. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to the Surry Rescue Squad.
