All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ THOMAS EARL WORLEY WORLEY, Thomas Earl, 87, a resident of Lakewood Manor, went home to the Lord on Monday, April 21, 2008. Mr. Worley was born August 11, 1920 in Dillwyn, Va., but lived in Richmond for the remainder of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mildred Fergusson Worley. Survivors include a son, Thomas Earl Worley, Jr.; a daughter, Sharon Worley Hopson and her husband, R. Craig Hopson; three grandchildren, Heather Hopson Thornton and her husband, Kevin; Kathleen Hopson Kozlowski and her husband, Kevin; and Ryan Christopher Hopson; four great-grandchildren, Samuel Garrett Thornton, Nichols Alexander Thornton, Madison Taylor Kozlowski and Landon James Kozlowski all of Richmond. Besides many nieces and nephews, Mr. Worley is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth Schroeder and a brother, A.C. "Jim" Worley. Mr. Worley attended John Marshall High School where he played baseball and football and remained active in baseball into his adult years. He also enjoyed fishing on the York River and was an avid deer hunter, enjoying driving the hunting dogs. Mr. Worley was co-owner of Worley Construction Company and as a commercial contractor, he built many schools and churches throughout the Richmond area. Mr. Worley was a lifelong member of Leigh Street Baptist Church, where he was part of the Men's Bible Class. He served as a Trustee, deacon, and taught in the Junior Department for many years. Mr. Worley was a past president (1955) of the Eastgate Lions' Club, senior past master of Henrico Union Lodge #130 A.F. and A.M., and a WWII U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Worley will be remembered as a "Distinguished Southern Gentleman" always true to his word with a passion for life. He never knew a stranger and always had a friendly smile, a kind word or joke, a great sense of humor, and a steadfast love for God and his family. He was a loving and nurturing father and "Gramps" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 24 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad Street. A Celebration Service of Mr. Worley's life will take place at Bennett's West Chapel on Friday, April 25, 10 a.m., with burial to follow in Westhampton Memorial Park. Donations in his memory may be made to the Virginia Baptist Homes Foundation, in care of Lakewood Manor, 1900 Lauderdale Dr., Richmond, Va 23238 or to a charity of your choice.
