Will of Bartholomew Andrews, 1828, Estate Documents, 1833-1836 - Surry Co. VA The last will and testament of Bartholomew Andrews, resident of the County of Surry and in the State of Virginia. Located in Will Book Six, 1830-1834. In the name of God amen. I, Bartholomew Andrews, of the county of Surry and in the state of Virginia being in my usual health, mind and memory do hereby make publish and declare the following as. and for my last will and testament viz. In the first place it is my will and desire that my just debts shall be paid as soon after my decease as possible. And after the payment of my just debts I leave unto my beloved wife Sylvia during her natural life all the rest and residue of my estate, both real and personal except my negroes and one Charlotte and her son Bob, which said negroes I do hereby emancipate and set free without reserve. I give and bequeath unto my negroe man Bob at the death of my beloved wife twelve acres of land to be taken off my plantation on the East side adjoining the lands of the estate of Richard Ellis, dcd. commencing at the said Ellis's line and running a west course down the path leading from the said Ellis's towards the lands of Nicholas Presson to the head of the Rooty branch, thence a North course a sufficient distance to make the said number of twelve acres, & thence an East course to the said Ellis's line. At the death of my beloved wife it is my will and desire that all the rest of my estate both real and personal shall be sold on such terms as my Executor hereafter named may deem most proper, and the moneys arising from the sale divided in the following manner to wit, the money arising from the sale of my personal estate I desire may be equally divided between all my children, namely Nancy, Mariah Holt, William Williamson Andrews, James Meredith Andrews, Jesse Barker Andrews, Lucy Williamson Andrews, Carlastine Willis Andrews, and John Absalom Andrews to them and their shares for ever. The money arising from the sale of my Land I desire may be divided equally among all my above named children except my son William Williamson Andrews to them and their heirs forever I nominate constitute and appoint my son Jesse Barker Andrews my whole and sole Executor of this my last Will and testament, hereby revoking and making null and void all former wills by me heretofore made. In witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twelfth day of November in the year Christ one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight. In Surry County Court, January 28th, 1833. The last will and testament of Bartholomew Andrews decd. was proved by the oath of Peter T. Spratley a subscribing witness and the handwriting of Wilie Davis who was also a witness to said will and who is dead, was proved by the oath of said Peter T. Spratley who deposed that he is well acquainted with the handwriting of said Davis, whereupon the same is ordered to be recorded & on the motion of Jesse B. Andrews the only Executor therein named who made oath and together with Henry Andrews, Joseph Bailey Archibald Davis & Albert B. Cooks his securities, entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penal sum of Six thousand dollars conditioned as the law directs.
