Will of Jeremiah Pierce, 1793 - Surry County, VA In the name of God Amen. I Jeremiah Pierce of the county of Surry and in perfect sense and good memory do make this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form , first committing my body to the ground to be buried in a decent manner and my soul to God. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son John Pierce the upper part of my plantation laying at a small walnut tree by the main road on the lower side of the bottom, thence a straight course to a small ---- persimmon tree, thence a straight course to a forked persimmon tree near the head of a bottom that makes into the head of Nicholls Mill Pond to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my sons Richard and Jeremiah Pierce all my land not hertofore given away to be equally divided between them and it is my desire that Jeremiah doth have the part whereon my house stands. It is also my desire that Jeremiah should have the still. And if either of my sons Richard or Jeremiah Pierce should die without heir it is my desire that the surviving one should have his part. It is furthermore my will and desire that Seventy of my negroes should be equally divided between my beloved children, John Pierce, Richard Pierce, Jeremiah Pierce, and Frances Pierce. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Richard Pierce one feather bed and furniture, first choice. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Jeremiah Pierce one feather bed and furniture, second choice. Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Francey one feather be and furniture, third and last choice and any money due from Shelby White to me. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Richard Pierce all my personal estate not hertofore given away, that is to say all my outstanding debts, all my stock of every kind, household and kitchen furniture, Plantation utinsels and all my crop made and growing, and if after the above mentioned ---Seventy negroes are divided there should be one or more left, it is my desire that my son Richard Pierce should have it or them and that he should pay all my just debts------ -----of my debts for my being *secahily which debts if there should be any must be paid out of my Estate.
