Data was extracted from the Wills and Estate Inventories of the following 
individuals.  The originals of these documents are held in the Library of 
Virginia.  This list is not a complete listing of all slaves during this time 
frame in this county.

I have not attempted to follow the chain transfer of the slaves.  They are 
frequently lent to the wife with the stipulation that if she marries, they are 
to be divided differently, usually between their children, but not always. In 
some cases I have shown the second transfer of a slave.

Comments: If she has no heir, she leaves her negro woman, Patte, to be free.  
And if she is to be free, then she is to be paid $5 cash out of the estate. 
Slave loaned to: Martha Atkinson, (wife of Robert Atkinson)
                            :Eliza, negro girl
Comments: Eliza is loaned to Martha until she is 18.  If Mary has an heir by 
that time, then Eliza goes to Mary's heir.  If Mary has no heir, then Eliza is 
to be set free under the same conditions as Patte.
