VA Surry Co., VA, Deeds, Wills, Etc., 1715-1730, p. 748 abstracted by Matt HARRIS [brackets, line breaks, & surname capitalization mine] In the Name of God Amen The Last Will and Testament of John SOWERBY being Very Sick and weak but in Perfect Seince and memory thanks be to Almighty God for it this Second day of January 1726/7 ~ First I give and bequeath my Soul to Almighty God in hopes of a glorious Resurrection to Eternal life and my body to be decently born to the Ground and buried and as for all my Wourldly Goods that God of his great Mercy hath Endowed me with thus I them bestow as followeth (Viz.t)~ 1 I give and bequeath to my Son Benjamin a Certain Tract or Parcel of Land being by Estimation 120 Acres and bounded as followeth begining at the Mouth of a branch on the South Side of Chanshehawken, Swamp Called the Muddy branch and up the said branch binding upon William RAY to a Line of Markt trees which is the next Line and along the said Line to a Pine, a Corner Tree, and thence down a Line of new Markt trees to the head of a Small branch, Called the Spring branch and down the s.d Branch to the Run of the Said Chanshehawken Swamp and down the main Run of the said Swamp to the first Station to him and his heirs for Ever, and also I give him my Gun and Sord. - 2 I give and bequeath to my Loving Wife Liddia the use of my Plantation with the Land thereunto belonging During her Natural life and after her Decease, I give the Said land with the Appurtenances thereunto belonging to my Son Henry to him and his heirs for Ever, also I give my Son Henry One Cow and two heiphers and my Cain. - 3 I give and bequeath to my Daughter Sarah OWIN one heipher of two years Old - 4 I give and bequeath to my Daughter Jane DEBERRY one Cow Calfe - 5 I give and bequeath to my Daughter Elizabeth one Cow and two heiphers - 6 I give and bequeath to my Daughter Mary A bed and the furniture thereunto belonging which is usally Call'd hers and a Small Trunk. - 7 I give and bequeath to my Grandaughter Anne SOWERBY the worth of Twenty Shillings to pay for the teaching her to Read - [8] I give and bequeath all the Rest of my Personable Estate within doors and without to my loving wife Liddia and do Appoint her to be my whole and Sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament as Witness my hand and Seal the day and date first above Written~ John SOWERBY *Seal'd w.th red wax* Test Thos.
