Devised January 31, 1750/51 Probated March 19, 1750/51 In the Name of God Amen, I, Thomas Tomlinson of Surry County being Sick and Weak of Body but of perfect Mind and Memory thanks be Given to Almighty God for the same, and knowing that it is appointed for all Men once to die, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament, in manner and form following, that is to say, first and principally, I bequeath my Soul to Almighty God, hoping for Everlasting Salvation and my Body to the Earth to be Decently Buried at the Discretion of my Executors, whom I shall hereafter appoint and as touching the Disposition ofthe personal Estate which it hath pleased God to bless me with give and dispose of the sameas followeth: Item, I give and bequeath unto my son William Tomlinson my Negro Boy Lewis, to him and [his] heirs forever; one case of bottles. Item, I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Tomlinson my Negro Girl Jenny to him and his heirs forever; one feather bed & furniture as it stands. Item, I give and bequeath unto my son Benjamin Tomlinson my Plantation I now live on and all my Land joining the same to him and his heirs forever, and my Negro Man Daniel and my Negro Woman Juda and my Negro Boy Joiner, and my Negro Girl Tabb to him and his heirs forever. Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Carter ten shillings currency of Virginia. Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Moss ten shillings currency of Virginia. Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Amy Carter ten shillings currency of Virginia. Item, And all the Residue of my Estate which I have not before bequeathed I give and bequeath the same to my son Benjamin Tomlinson to his heirs forever. Item, And my will is that my Estate should not be appraised and I do hereby appoint my son Benjamin Tomlinson my whole and sole Exectuor to this my Last Will and Testament. Item, And I do disallow and make void all former wills by me heretofore made, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament. Joseph Carter Joseph Carter Henry Gee At a Court held for Surry County the 19th Day of March 1750: The Within and afore Written Last Will and Testament of Thomas Tomlinson, Dec'd., was presented in Court and the Executor therein named being within the Age of Twenty-one years, Whereupon on the Motion of John Tomlinson, who made oath thereto According to Law, Certificate is granted him for Obtaining Letters of Administration of the Estate of the said Executor, Giving Security and thereupon he together with Richard Carter and Wyke Hunnicutt, his securities, entered into and acknowledged their Bond for his due administration of the said Estate and the said Will is Ordered to be Recorded.
