THIS INDENTURE made the 22d day of April in the second year of this Commonwealth and in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight. Between John Rivers & Elizabeth his wife of the County of Sussex of the one part and William Moore of the same County of the other part. WITNESSETH that the said John Rivers & Elizabeth Rivers his wife for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred & seventy five pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said William Moore before the Sealing & delivering of hereof the receipt whereof the said John Rivers and his wife doth hereby acknowledge that he the said John Rivers and Elizabeth his wife Hath granted Sold aliened and confirmed and by these presents Doth grant bargain Sell alien and confirm unto the said William Moore his heirs & assigns forever all his tract or parcel of land lying in the Parish of Albemarle in the County of Sussex containing by estimation three hundred sixty five acres be the same more or less and bounded as followeth (to wit) Beginning at the Poplar Swamp at the mouth of a meadow thence up the meadow to a white oak in Thomas Williamsons line thence by said Williamsons line to a red oak a corner in Barnes's line thence by Barnes's line to a gum standing in Poplar Swamp thence down the various courses of the swamp to the beginning. WITH ALL houses edifices buildings orchards gardens lands meadows commons pastures Seedings trees woods underwoods waypaths waters watercourses Easements profits commodities advantages Emoluments & hereditaments whatsoever to the said tract or parcel of land belonging or in any way appertaining and also all estates right title Reversion and Reversions Remainder, Remainders Rents and Services of all and Singular the said premisses and of every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances and also all the estates right title interest claim and demand whatsoever of him the said John Rivers and Elizabeth his wife of in and to the said premisses of every part and parcel thereof. TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said tract or parcel of land & premisses above mentioned and every part and parcel thereof with the appurts unto the said William Moore his heirs and assigns forever. AND the said Jno. Rivers and Elizabeth his wife and his heirs and assigns the s'd. tract or parcel of land and premisses and every part thereof against him and his heirs and against all and every other Person & Persons whatsoever to the said William Moore his heirs & assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend by these Presents. Newsum Thomas Williamson John Rivers MEMORANDUM that on the 22d day of April in the year of our Lord Christ 1778 full and peaceable possession and Seisin of the within mentioned tract or parcel of land were given and delivered by the within named John Rivers and Elizabeth Rivers his wife in their proper persons unto the said William Moore according to the true intent & meaning of the within mentioned Indenture and in due form of law. This Indenture and the memorandum thereon endorsed were acknowledged by the thereto subscribers John Rivers & Elizabeth his wife & by the Court ordered to be recorded; Previous to which she was privily examined and did freely relinquish her right of dower of in & to the lands conveyed by the said Indenture.
