THIS INDENTURE made this tenth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy four Between John Rivers of the County of Sussex of the one part and Archelaus Carlos of the County aforesaid of the other part WITNESSETH that the said John Rivers for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred & thirty pounds current money to him in hand paid by the said Archelaus Carlos the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained sold aliened enfeoffed and confirmed and made over and by these presents for himself his heirs Executors and Administrators all and every of them bargain sell alien enfeoff release & forever make over unto the said Archelaus Carlos his heirs & assigns one certain tract or parcel of Land it being the same whereon the said Carlos now lives and has had the same in possession four years situated lying & being in Sussex County aforesaid and on the North side of Sappony Creek and bounded as follows viz, Beginning at a red oak standing on the Creek bank then running about North to a pine thence North East to a corner pine in the reedy branch thence up the said branch to a black gum in the said Branch thence South thirty degrees West two hundred & eighty four poles to a Hiccory on Thomas Husons line from thence to Hunts Corner whiteoak standing near the head of a Branch from thence down the said Branch along a new line made Between Edward Harper and myself to the Creek aforesaid and down the s'd Creek to the Beginning being by Estimation three hundred & thirty acres be the same more or less in the Bounds aforesaid together with the reversion & reversions remainder & remainders, right Estate Interest Claim and demand whatsoever of him the said John Rivers of in & to the said land and premises or any part thereof TO HAVE & TO HOLD the said Tract of Land with all & singular the Premises with the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto the said Archelaus Carlos his heirs & assigns forever to the only proper use & Behoof of him the said Archelaus Carlos his Heirs & assigns and the said John Rivers for himself & his Heirs the said Tract or parcel of Land with all & singular the premises with the appurtenances unto him the said Archelaus Carlos his heirs & assigns forever shall & will warrant and forever defend said land & premises unto Arche Carlos by these presents In Witness whereof the said John Rivers hath hereunto set his Hand and Seal the day & year first above written. John Rivers (Seal) Signed Seal'd & delivered in presence of - Thomas Saunders Judkins Hunt Daniel Mitchell Joell Wilkerson At a Court held for Sussex County the 17th day of February 1774 This Indenture was proved to be the act & Deed of the thereunto subscribed John Rivers by the oaths of Judkins Hunt & Daniel Mitchell two of the witnesses thereto and at another Court held for the said County the 19th day of May next following the said Indenture was further proved by the oath of Thomas Saunders another witness thereto and by the Court ordered to be Recorded.
