Deed - John Sammons, James Sammons, et al to John Morgan (Land Titles & Deeds, Book C, 1763-1768, page 162, Sussex Co.VA.) THIS INDENTURE made the tenth day of January in the year of our Lord God One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Five between John Sammons and Lucretia his wife, James Sammons Jr. and Anne his wife, Matthew Hubbard and Mary his wife, Charles Sledge and Elizabeth his wife of Albemarle Parish and Sussex County of the one part, and John Morgan of the County and Parish aforesaid of the other part WITNESSETH that the said John Sammons, James Sammons Junr. Matthew Hubbard and Charles Sledge for and in consideration of the sum of four pounds sixteen shillings and two pence current money to them in hand well and truly paid by the said John Morgan the receipt whereof they the said John Sammons, James Sammons Jr., Matthew Hubbard and Charles Sledge doth hereby acknowledge they the said John Sammons, James Sammons Jr., Matthew Hubbard and Charles Sledge hath & doth grant, bargain and sell, alein and confirm unto the said John Morgan his heirs and assigns forever all that tract or parcel of Land situate lying and being in the County of Sussex aforesaid and on both sides of the Great Swamp containing by Estimation Sixty Seven acres be the same more or less and is bounded as followeth, to wit, BEGINNING at a Gum in Henry Gee's and John Sammon's line on the South side of the Great Swamp, thence along a line of new marked trees between between the said Sammons and Morgan down the said swamp to James Sammons Junr's line thence along a new line down said swamp between the said James and said Morgan to a small black gum, thence along a new line across said swamp to Charles Sledge's line, thence along a new line between Sledge & Morgan to Matthew Hubbards line thence along said Hubbards line to a corner red oak, between said Hubbard and Morgan, thence along a new line to the Poplar Spring branch, and down said branch to a pine and across said branch to a small oak, a corner between said Morgan and Hubbard and up the swamp a new line to the Gum begun at in Henry Gee's line. And all Houses,Buildings,Orchards, Lands, and advantages whatsoever to the said tract or parcel of land belonging or in any wise appertaining and also all the Estate, Right, Title, Interest, Property, Claim and Demand whatsoever of them the said John Sammons, James Sammons Junior, Matthew Hubbard and Charles Sledge of, in and to the same TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said tract or parcel of Land and premises with the appurtenances unto the said John Morgan his heirs and assigns forever. And the said John Sammons, James Sammons Jr. Matthew Hubbard and Charles Sledge the said tract or parcel of Land and premises with the appurtenances unto the said John Morgan his heirs and assigns, against them the said John Sammons, James Sammons, Matthew Hubbard, and Charles Sledge and theirs and against all other persons shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents.
