Deed of Trust - Groves Sammons to Hansel Sammons (Deed Book H, page 392, Sussex Co.VA.) THIS INDENTURE made this Second day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety five between Groves Sammons of the County of Sussex of the one part and Hansel Sammons of the same County of the other part WITNESSETH whereas James Sammons of the aforesaid County hath bargained and sold unto the s'd. Groves Sammons thirty acres of land be the same more or less & also is his security in sundry instances to the amount for land & being security for sixty pounds current money of Virginia as his writings obligatory will make appear and whereas the s'd. Groves is willing and desirious as far as in his power lies to save harmless the said James Sammons his heirs extor's. administrator, or assigns in the premises THIS INDENTURE THEREFORE WITNESSETH that the said Groves as well for the consideration aforesaid as for the consideration of the further sum of six shillings current money of Virginia to him the said Groves Sammons in hand paid by the said James Sammons he the said Groves Sammons doth by these presents make over in trust to and for the purposes aforesaid and for no other intent use or purpose whatsoever unto the said Hansel Sammons his heirs and assigns forever all the following property viz; One Mare, Three Cattle, two feather beds and furniture, thirteen head of hogs and all the household furniture I possess with all my working Tools and crop of all kinds To have & to hold the aforesaid articles and every part thereof unto the said Hansel Sammons his heirs and assigns forever in trust to and for the purposes aforesaid, And it is hereby agreed to by and between the parties to these presents that whenever the said James Sammons his heirs executors and administrators shall conceive or apprehend themselves in danger of suffering in estate by means of the sale of Land or security as aforesaid to and for the said Groves Sammons and shall give notice thereof to the aforesaid Hansel Sammons trustee as aforesaid his heirs extrs. administrators or assigns that it shall and may be lawful to and for the said Trustee to make sale of the whole estate herein before conveyed in trust or any part or so much thereof as may be sufficient to discharge the said James Sammons from the security ships and reimburse him his money for the land aforesaid etc. and all cost attending this writing if it be necessary to record it and all matters attending the finishing of the affair and when the whole shall be compleat and finished the overplus of such sales of the estate to return to the said Groves Sammons his heirs extrs. or administrators or assigns In Witness whereof the said Groves Sammons hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his Seal the day and year first above written.- Signed Sealed and acknowledged to be his act and Deed in the Presence of} Groves Sammons (Seal) At a Court held for Sussex County the 3rd day of December 1795. This deed of Trust was acknowledged by Groves Sammons a party thereto to be his act and deed & ordered to be recorded.
