Persons or organizations desiring to use this material, must obtain the written consent of the contributor, or the legal representative of the submitter, and contact the listed USGenWeb archivist with proof of this consent. ************************************************************************ Contributed by Christie Canfield **************************************************************** This Indenture made this third day of February one thousand eight hundred and Three between John Wrenn and Francis his wife of the County of Sussex of the one part and Stith Parham of same County of another part Witnesseth that the Said John Wrenn and Francis his wife for and in Consideration of The Sum of one hundred and twenty pounds fifteen Shillings Current Money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said Stith Parham at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the Said John Wrenn and Francis his wife doth hereby acknowledge hath Granted bargained Sold Aliend released and Confirmed and by these presents doth Alien release and Confirm unto the said Stith Parham his heirs and Assigns forever one piece or parcel of land Situate lying and being in the County Aforesaid Containing by Survey one hundred and Sixty eight Acres and bounded as follows to Wit) begining on Nottoway river at the mouth of the Island Swamp thence up the Said Swamp to a Gum on Green Hills line thence South 41 east 44 poles to a bend on the said line thence to a Corner of William Wilbornes line thence on a Straight line between the said John Wrenn and Francis his wife and the said William Wilborne to a burch on Nottoway river thence down the river to the begining being the said John Wrenn and Francis his wifes Proportion of a tract of land belonging to the estate of William Oliver deceased To have and to hold all and Singular The said Piece or parcel of land with all and Singular the Appertenances thereunto belonging to him the said Stith Parham his heirs or Assigns to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Stith Parham his heirs and assigns forever and we the Said John Wrenn and Francis his wife for ourselves our heirs and Assigns, the wright and title of the Said piece or parcel of land with all and Singular the Appertenances to the said Stith Parham his heirs and Assigns Shall and will warrant and forever defend, any person or persons whatsoever, In Witness whereof the Said John Wrenn and Francis his wife hath hereunto Set Their hands and Affixed Their Seals The day and Year first Above written, Signed Sealed and delvd John Wrenn (Seal) In presence of William Parham (S) Francis Wrenn (Seal) Robert Wrenn – John Syell? The Commonwealth of Virginia to John Massenburg, Henry Br???h and Littleberry Mason – Justices of our County Court of Sussex whereas John Wrenn and Francis Wrenn his wife, by their certain Indenture of bargain and Sale bearing date the 3rd day of February 1803, have Sold and Conveyed unto Stith Parham the fee simple estate of in and to a Certain tract or parcel of land lying in the said County containing one hundred 68 Acres And whereas the said Francis Wrenn Cannot Conveniently travel to our said County Court to make her Acknowledgment of the said Indenture we do therefore Give you or any two of you full power and Authority to receive such acknowledgment, of the said Francis as she shall be willing to Make before you of the Conveyance aforesaid Contained in the said Indenture and which is hereto Annexed and we Command you that you do personally Go to the said Francis Wrenn and receive her Acknowledgment and examine her prively and Apart from her husband whether she doth the same freely and Voluntarily without his persuasion or threats and whether she be willing the said Indenture should be Recorded in our said County Court of Sussex and such Certificate so taken You shall without delay Send together with the said Indenture, and this writ to the Justices of our Said County Court, Witness James C. Bailey Clerk of our Said Court The 7th day of July 1803 in the 28th Year of the Commonwealth ---------- Richard Johnston D.C.S.C. This may Certify That agreeable to the within Commission to us directed we have examined the within Named Francis Wrenn privily and apart form her husband John Wrenn who has acknowledged the said Indenture before us and that she doth the Same freely and Voluntarily without the threats or persuasions of said husband & that she is desirous the same should be Recorded in the County Court of Sussex Given under our hands this 30th day of July 1803 – L.Mason Jno Massenburg At a Court held for Sussex County the 6th day of October 1803.
