Adkins, 87, of Wakefield, died March 28, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Clarice Cowling Adkins. He is survived by his three children, David C. Adkins, Linda A. Smith, and John R. Adkins; five grandchildren, 1 LT Byron Adkins, Jamie Smith, Noah Smith, Felicia Moore, and Rachael Adkins; and two great-grandchildren, Kenley Moore and Valerie Adkins. Mr. Adkins was a retired Army master sergeant with 22 years of active service. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Korean War Service Medal, among others. After the military he worked as a rural postal carrier in the Windsor area. He was a long-time member of Wakefield Baptist Church [sic*] and volunteered his time to Obici Hospital in Suffolk. He will be missed deeply, especially for his quiet, unassuming grace and sense of humor. A funeral service for Mr. Adkins will be held at Wakefield Baptist Church at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, April 1, 2015. The service will be followed by interment at Wakefield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Wakefield Baptist Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 567, Wakefield 23888.
