Sterling Chenault Adams Sr., 75, passed away Tuesday Nov. 7, 2006, at Waverly Health Care Center in Waverly, Va. Born Jan. 15, 1931, in Dinwiddie County he was the son of the late Julian A. Adams and Ellen A. Chenault Adams. Sterling was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean conflict. He was the owner of Adams Service Station in Wakefield and a heavy equipment operator. He was the husband of Virginia Grace Maifield Adams. Mr. Adams is also survived by three sons, Sterling C. "Chen" Adams, Jr. of Wakefield, Bruce Garland Adams and wife, Lenora, of Waverly, Terry Keith Adams and wife, Betty, of Disputanta; five grandchildren, Jake, Jessie, Brandee, Jordan, and Seth; and three brothers, Calvin Adams of Waverly, Floyd Adams of Idaho and Gene Adams of Dinwiddle. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006 in Wakefield Cemetery, Wakefield, Va., with Pastor Joy Heaton officiating. The family will receive friends at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, from 7 until 8:30 Wednesday evening. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department, 155 Fleetwood Ave., Wakefield, VA 23888, or the Waverly Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 583, Waverly, VA 23890.
