He was a native of Wakefield, Va., and the son of the late William Cordie and Mary Lucinda Baker Andrews. Mr. Andrews was a licensed funeral director and was the owner of Andrews Funeral Home in Gloucester, Va. He started his career in funeral service in 1950 at the J.W. Bliley Funeral Home in Richmond, Va. From 1956 to 1962, he was the manager of Royston Funeral Home in Marshall, Va. From 1962 to 1962, he was the manager of Colonial Funeral Home in Marshall, Va. From 1962 to 1975 he was the manager of Colonial Funeral Home in Smithfield until he purchased the Bridges Funeral Home which is now Andrews Funeral Home in Gloucester. He is a member of Bellamy United Methodist Church in Gloucester where he is serving on the administrative board, and had been a United Methodist Lay Leader, a former member of the church choir and former Chairman of the Pastor- Parish Committee. He is a member and past president of the Tidewater Funeral Directors Assoc.; member and past president of the Virginia Funeral Directors Assoc.; a member of the National Funeral Directors Assoc.; and in 1996 he received the Funeral Director of the Year award from the Virginia Directors Assoc. He was to receive the Golden License Award this month from the V.F.D.A. He taught the initial group of Volunteers their basic first aid course when the Isle of Wight Volunteers Rescue Squad was formed in Smithfield, was the Past Master of the Blue Ridge Lodge # 303 AF & AM in Marshall, Va., and also Smithfield Union Lodge # 18 AF & AM in Smithfield, a member of Botetourt Lodge #7 AF & AM in Gloucester, Va., and had served as District Deputy Grand Master in 1982, was past president of the Smithfield and Gloucester Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow, served two terms on the Smithfield Town Council and was the director of Service to Military Families in Gloucester and Smithfield. He also served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a medical corpsman. Jack is survived by his wife of 54 years, Martha Frances Potts Andrews; his sons, Gerald L. "Jerry" Andrews and his wife, Ann, of Gloucester, John Michael "Mike" Andrews and his wife, JoAnn of Springfield, Va.; his sister, Mary Elizabeth Rollings of Wakefield; his brothers, William Cordie Andrews, Jr. and his wife, Ruth, of Surry, and James Richard Andrews and his wife, Carol, of Wakefield; his grandchildren, Hope, Jeri-Lee, Justin, Mary and Kelly. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, in Bellamy United Methodist church by the Rev. Robert Justis. Burial will be in Bellamy United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1417, Gloucester, Va.
