Bishop. (Special Dispatch to The Times.) WAKEFIELD, VA., April 10. - Mrs. Susan L. Bishop died here to-day after a lingering illness of several weeks' duration, superinduced by a fall, which resulted in the dislocation of her right hip joint. Mrs. Bishop died at the residence of James D. Hart, her son-in-law, where every loving care and devotion was bestowed by her daughter, Mrs. Hart, and other members of the family connection. Mrs. Bishop was a devout Christian lady, and had been a consistent member of the Baptist Church from her early life, therefore was a shining light in this community, and her loving and cheerful presence will be sadly felt by all of her acquaintances. ****************************************************************************** SUSAN L. BISHOP Susan L. Bishop, born August 11, 1832 in Bertie County, North Carolina, was living in Wakefield in the home of her daughter, Ada L. Hart, and son-in-law, James D. Hart, according to the census of 1900. She was the wife of Erastus R. Bishop of Bertie County, North Carolina, apparently deceased before 1900. Susan L. Bishop was a founding member of Wakefield Baptist Church. She was the mother of three children: Albert Williams Bishop (b. July 7, 1856 in Bertie County, North Carolina, d. April 10, 1911 in Wakefield) who married Mary Mahala Wrenn and Margaret Allen Seward; Agnes Martha Bishop (b. March 21, 1858, d. April 3, 1920) who married Floyd Crandall; Ada Louise Bishop (b. July 22, 1861, d. February 5, 1948 in Wakefield) who married James D. Hart. At her death on April 20, 1902, she was buried in Wakefield Cemetery in the Hart burial square which is located in Section A. Her window is located in the church sanctuary. James D. Hart and his family were also founding members of Wakefield Baptist Church. At the organizational meeting he was elected Treasurer for Pastoral Support. He died in 1931. She was granted a Confederate pension in 1900. Her husband, a VA native, d. of disease 13 Oct 1962 in Charlestown [now WV], while serving in Co. C of a NC regiment - regimental number illegible in online scan of application.
