BAILEY OF WAKEFIELD DIED WEDNESDAY Howell J. Bailey, 68, of Wakefield, died Wednesday night, January 8, at Lakeview Hospital, Suffolk, after an illness of six days. A native of Southampton County, Mr. Bailey moved to Wakefield as a youngster. From 1909 until his retirement in 1946, he was a rural mail carrier on the Wakefield routes. Funeral service will be held at the Wakefield Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m. Friday, with interment in the Wakefield Cemetery. He is survived by the following children: Rose, Wellington Drew, Howell James, Jr., all of Wakefield; Joseph Ferrell [sic*], of Portsmouth, and Mrs. Charles W. Garth of Geer, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Arthur Spivey, of Dendron, and two grandchildren.
