JAMES EDWARD BAILEY 

   WAKEFIELD - A funeral for James Bailey, 74, was held Saturday at 2 p.m. in 
Purviance Funeral Chapel by the Revs. R.E. Brittle and Jerry Edwards.  Burial 
was in the Wakefield cemetery.

   Pallbearers were Earl Rollings, Jimmy Baldwin, Jimmy Savedge, Billy 
Baldwin, Robert Hatch, Phillip Chappell, Aubrey Whitmore, Willie J. Griffin, 
Marion Raiford and Cecil Epps.

   Bailey died Thursday in a hospital.

   A native of Surry County he was the husband of Ethel Edwards Bailey.

   Other survivors include four daughters, Rachel B. Billups of Zuni, Marie B. 
Williams of Virginia Beach, Cynthia B. Chappell of Waverly and Juanita Bailey 
of Petersburg; and seven grandchildren.

  WAKEFIELD - James Edward "Brock" Bailey, 74, died Thursday, Sept. 29 at 
Louise Obici Memorial Hospital. 

  Mr. Bailey was a member of Wakefield Congregational Christian Church.  He 
was a native of Surry County and was a retired carpenter. 

  He is survived by his wife, Ethel Edwards Bailey of Wakefield; four 
daughters, Mrs. Rachel B. Billups of Zuni, Mrs. Marie B. Williams of 
Virginia Beach, Mrs. Cynthia B. Chappel of Waverly, Miss Juanita Bailey of 
Petersburg; and seven grandchildren.

  Mr. Bailey was a member of the Wakefield Hunt Club, the Wakefield Sportsman 
Club and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935. 

  A funeral service was held Saturday at Purviance Funeral Chapel. 
Burial was in Wakefield with the service conducted by Dr. R.E. Brittle and 
the Rev. Jerry Edwards. 

  Memorial donations can be made to the local rescue squads or Wakefield 
Congregational Christian Church.
