Born in Surry County, he was a farmer before retirement and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of Rocky Hock United Methodist Church and of Hopewell Lodge 1472 of the Loyal Order of Moose. He was a former member of Wakefield Ruritan Club, the Wakefield Veteran Club, the American Legion and the Farmers Hunt Club. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Martha A. Bailey; two daughters, Mrs. Andrea Grammer of Waverly and Mrs. Janice Harrell of Emporia; a son, Michael A. Bailey of Prince George; six sisters, Mrs. Gladys Roach of Waverly; Mrs. Amy B. Barrett of Sedley; Mrs. Edith Reynolds of Richmond; Mrs. Wilma Rountree of Smithfield; Mrs. Ethel Spratley of Surry, and Mrs. Annie Lee Harvell of Lake Pequot, Minn.; a brother R.J. Bailey of Wakefield, and seven grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Purviance Funeral Home by the Rev. L.P. Bland and the Rev. Craig Buxton. Burial will be Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 tonight and request that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Waverly Rescue Squad or the Ivor Rescue Squad.
