WILLIE AUGUSTA BEALE 

WILLIE A. BEALE DIES; IN SUSSEX GOVERNMENT 

  WAKEFIELD - Willie A. Beale, 91, former Sussex County commissioner of 
revenue and former chairman of the Sussex County Board of Supervisors, died 
Thursday in Petersburg General Hospital.

  Born in Nansemond County, Beale was a resident of Sussex County since 1917.

  He was a former chairman and member of the Sussex County Board of 
Supervisors from 1942 to 1949 and was the commissioner of revenue for Sussex 
from 1949 until his retirement in 1978.

  He was a charter member and past president of the Wakefield Ruritan Club. 
He was a 50 year member of the Wakefield Lodge No. 198 AF&AM and was director 
of the Bank of Sussex and Surry in Wakefield.

  A retired farmer, he was awarded a certificate of recognition for pioneering 
agriculture in 1968 from the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.

  In 1946 he was awarded the Master Farmer Award for the State of Virginia by 
the Progressive Farmer and the Virginia Extension Service.

  He was a graduate of the Smithdeal Massey Business College of Richmond, and 
as a member of Wakefield Congregational Christian Church.

  Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. V.L. Worrell, Jr. of Wakefield, Mrs. 
E.R. Crenshaw of Richmond, and Mrs. E. Baxter Seward of Elberon; three sons, 
C.L. Beale, A.W Beale, and Jack Beale, all of Wakefield; a sister, Mrs. Mary 
B. Nelms of Virginia Beach; a brother, Robert O. Beale of Virginia Beach, 21 
grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

  A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Purviance Funeral Home, 
Wakefield, by the Rev. Donald Chick and the Rev. J.M. Tongue.

  Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery.

  The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight in the funeral home. 
At other times, the family will be at the Beale home, Route 604 near Wakefield.

  The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of 
contributions to the National Kidney Foundation or the Waverly Rescue Squad.
