A native of Roanoke, she was a graduate of Ferrum Junior College and Blackstone Female Institute. She was a former school teacher in the Roanoke city and county schools and a member of Rocky Hock United Methodist Church of Surry County. Survivors include her husband, the Rev. L.P. Bland (ret.), a daughter, Mrs. W.C. Seeley Jr. of Wakefield; three sons, L.P. Bland III of Portsmouth, Ben P. Bland of Plano, Tex., and James L. Bland of Richmond; a half-sister, Mrs. Virginia Alexander of St. Petersburg, Fla., and nine grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Wakefield United Methodist Church by the Rev. James Tongue and Dr. Carl Haley. Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Christian Children’s Fund of Virginia, or the Virginia Methodist Children’s Home, in care of C.M.
