BAIN DIES; FORMER SUSSEX OFFICIAL WAKEFIELD - Fairfield S. Bain, a former longtime member of the Sussex County School Board, died Friday. He was 75. Mr. Bain was active in community affairs. He served on the School Board from 1965 until 1988. He was past president of the Wakefield Ruritan Club and was a member of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. He belonged to Wakefield United Methodist Church. He owned Green Level Farm, a hog farming operation. Mr. Bain graduated from Wakefield High School and Danville Military Institute. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Survivors include his wife, Mamie Jenkins Bain; and two sons, Dr. Fairfield T. Bain of Cochranville, Pa., and Robert W. Bain of Ivor. He was preceded in death by a son, George A. Bain. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Wakefield United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Wakefield Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad of the American Lung Association. ****************************************************************************** FAIRFIELD SHELTON BAIN Fairfield S. Bain, age 75, a resident of Wakefield, died Friday, February 21, 1992, at Norfolk Sentara Hospital. A native of Sussex County, he was son of the late Tucker and Victoria Whitley Bain. He was the owner of Green Level Farm, a hog farming operation. He was a member of the Wakefield United Methodist Church, past President of the Wakefield Ruritan Club, and member of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. He was a graduate of Wakefield High School, was a graduate of Danville Military Institute, and he attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He served as a member of the Sussex County School Board from 1965 to 1988. He is survived by his wife, Mamie Jenkins Bain; two sons, Dr. Fairfield T. Bain of Cochranville, PA and Robert W. Bain of Ivor; a daughter-in-law, Marian Murchison Bain of Cochranville, PA. He was father of the late George A. Bain. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 24, 1992, at Wakefield United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jess V. Staton. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. The family will be at the residence, Route 1, Box 361, Wakefield. Memorial donations may be made to Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad, or the American Lung Association. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, is handling arrangements.
