BAIN, WAKEFIELD MAYOR, DIES, AGE 54 WAKEFIELD - June 30 - Robert Franklin Bain, 54, mayor of Wakefield, member of Governor Byrd’s staff and retired businessman, died Monday evening at his home following a heart attack. A former president of the American Peanut Corporation, he was president of the Bank of Sussex and Surry Counties. Mr. Bain was mayor since 1916. In World War I he was an infantry officer and served overseas 18 months. He was born Oct. 4, 1892 at Wakefield. He belonged to Wakefield Methodist Church, American Legion, Wakefield Lodge No. 198, AF&AM; Dalcho consistory No. 1, Ancient Free and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, U.S.A; Khedive Temple, AAONMS, of Norfolk; Suffolk Shrine Club and the Virginia State Chamber of Commerce. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Marion Thomason Bain, and two sons, Robert F. Jr. and Jack Philip Bain of Wakefield. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church, conducted by the Rev. S.L. Dumville, pastor. Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery.
