She was born June 9, 1916, in Southampton County, the daughter of the late Willie Thomas Warren Sr. and Annie Elsworth Warren. Mrs. Burgess had worked for Wakefield Pharmacy for 16 years and was a member of Wakefield United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Burgess. Mrs. Burgess is survived by a son, Robert E. Burgess, and his wife, Judy T., of Wakefield; a daughter, Nancy Getz of Tampa, Fla.; one brother, Oscar Warren of Shenandoah; one sister, Evie Nichols of Burrowsville; three half-brothers, Willie Thomas Warren Jr. of Smithfield, James T. Warren of Smithfield and John Warren of Shenandoah; three grandchildren, Michael Christopher Getz and wife, Martha, of Broadway, Joey Burgess of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Annette Haywood and husband, Buster, of Wakefield; and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in Wakefield Cemetery, Wakefield, with Dr. James Becker officiating. The family will be at the residence of Robert and Judy Burgess, 28061 Kitchen Drive, Wakefield. Memorial donations may be made to the Waverly Rescue Squad or the Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad.
