He was a native of Sussex County and retired as a refrigeration technician from City of Richmond in 1979. He was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church and Black Creek Ruritan Club. Survivors include his wife, Lois E. Burkett; five daughters, Linda Porter of Franklin, Judi Lange of Virginia Beach, Ginny Bellamy of Thailand, Ali Servideo of The Plains and Teresa Eaheart of Richmond; five sisters, Annie Rollings of Emporia, Beulah G. Newman of Commerce, GA., Ivalee Keefer of Kensington, Md., Virginia M. Vensel of Grandy, N.C., and Eunice B. Brown of Wakefield; four brother brothers, Burge W. Burkett of Clarksburg, Md., A.J. Burkett of Danville, Wallace T. Burkett of Wakefield and Charlye Daune Burkett of Waverly; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral will conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Purviance Funeral Home by the Rev. Wayne D. Underwood. Burial will follow in Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Black Creek Baptist Church mission fund or American Cancer Society, 618C J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, Va. 23601.
