Barker, a native of Bristol, a longtime resident of Wakefield and former owner and operator of the Midway Cafe, Wakefield and had owned and operated the Wakefield Inn Restaurant and Motel since 1971 to the present. He was a member of Wakefield Lodge #198, A.F. and A., Treasurer of Homeville Hunt Club, and a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. Survivors include, wife, Jean C. Barker; one stepson, Greg A. Downey of Waverly: two stepgrandsons, Gregory Allen Downey, Jr. and Christopher Stuart Downey, both of Waverly, and two nephews. Funeral services were held at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield. Burial was at Tyler Mountian Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes, West Va. with the Rev. E. Lee Chattin officiating. Purviance Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. D.Cert. 88-001151 gives b. VA, sn/o Alton Crumbly & Elizabeth (BOWERS) BARKER. His father, Alton Crumley BARKER (19 Jul 1885 - 19 Oct 1936) was buried in Bristol. His paternal grandparents, Daniel S. & Rhoda (GOBBLE) BARKER, are buried in Mendota Cemetery, Mendota, Washington Co., VA. (Find a Grave Mem. #62385791 &c.)
