He was a retired mill engineer of Surry Lumber Co. and a retired farmer of the Wakefield Community. He was a member of Burton Grove Christian Church. He was the son of the late Joseph Henry and Rebecca Brittle Barrett, and was the husband of the late Carrie Carroll Barrett. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. G. Cephus Brittle, three grandsons, Gilbert C. Brittle, three grandsons, Gilbert C. Brittle, Jr., of Bowling Green; Earl T. Brittle and Charles B. Brittle of Wakefield; one granddaughter, Mrs. Nelson Boykins of Richmond and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Feb. 23, at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. H.E. Crutchfield in Purviance Funeral Chapel with interment in Wakefield Cemetery. Pallbearers were John R. Simms, Jr., Daniel C. Gay, Gregor Huber, Edwin Carroll, Harvey W. Stephenson and C.F. Brown.
