Birdsong, 78, formerly of Sussex County, who died Saturday night at the home of his son-in-law, V.I. Crumpler, in this city. The Rev. W.T. Purdie will officiate. His survivors are the following children; W.H. Birdsong of Nakomis, Fla., A.A. Birdsong of Petersburg, H.H. Birdsong of Waverly, F.M. Birdsong of Chevy Chase, Md., Mrs. V.I. Crumpler and Robert L. Birdsong of Petersburg, Mrs. R.E. Poole of Stony Creek and L.D. Birdsong of Ocean View, and two brothers, M.L. and E.T. Birdsong of Disputanta. A note posted with his father's Find a Grave Mem. (#18300432) states that Benjamin Thomas "Long Tom" BIRDSONG (1813-1893) was the first buried in Newville Cemetery, Newville, Sussex Co., citing a booklet compiled in 1951, "The History of Newville Baptist Church, Sussex County" (p. 28), Frank was Postmaster of Homeville, Sussex Co., 14 Mar 1916 - 28 Apr 1921.
