A native and lifelong resident of Sussex County, the deceased was a son of the late George T. and Mary S. Birdsong. He was a member of the Wakefield Christian Church. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Lanier Birdsong; one son, John Thomas Birdsong of Portsmouth; one daughter, Mrs. Edward Drewry of Wakefield; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services for Mr. Birdsong were conducted at the Purviance Funeral Chapel in Wakefield on Wednesday afternoon, March 13, at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. J.E. White, D.D., and Rev. H.G. Crutchfield. Burial was in the Wakefield Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Lyster Altizer, D.B. Bailey, G.N. Bailey, G.N. Branch, F.C. Hess, Kelly Lanier, John Little, John Savedge and Charles Travis.
