BURGESS BRITTLE BURIED AT WAVERLY Funeral services for J. Burgess Brittle, 46, who died at his home near there Tuesday, March 25th following a long illness, were conducted from the home Thursday afternoon with his pastor the Rev. W.G. Bates, Jr. officiating assisted by Rev. L.E. Holzbach. Interment was made in the Waverly Cemetery. Mr. Brittle was a lifelong resident of this section and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was a World War Veteran and saw considerable service with the American Army in France. Pallbearers were: Joe Epps, Ned Epps, J.W. Rogers, B.J. Goodrich, Garland Goodrich, Stanley Cooper, Dennis Harvell and Willie Lowe. Surviving him are: his widow Mrs. Lucy Padgett Brittle; two daughters, Misses Pauline and Edith Birttle all of Wakefield, two brother D.W. Brittle of Atlanta, Ga., and A.J. Brittle of Wakefield. John Burgess BRITTLE, farmer, WW-I veteran, b. 18 Nov 1894, Southampton Co., d. 25 Mar 1941, at home, Surry Co., interred in Waverly Cemetery, 27 Mar 1941, donated obit, publication unknown Birthdate &c. from D.Cert. 8520 (Blackwater #6). His parents, John Nicholas & "Addie" Adlaide P. (HERRIN) BRITTLE, are buried in Millfield Baptist Church Cemetery.
