WAKEFIELD - James Walter Cobb Sr., 59, of Wakefield, died Monday in his home. A lifelong resident of Sussex County, he was a member of Wakefield United Methodist Church and its official board. He operated Cobbs Automotive in Wakefield for over 30 years and was a former member of Sussex County School Board. An veteran of the Army Air Corps, he attended Richmond Professional Institute. He was a member of Wakefield Ruritan Club and the Wakefield Masonic Lodge No. 198. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Frances Thomas Cobb; a daughter, Miss Carolyn H. Cobb of Richmond; three sons, James W. Cobb, Jr. of Williamsburg, William A. Cobb of Charlottesville and Henry W. Cobb of Blacksburg; his parents, R.M. and Mrs. Amie Cobb Sr. of Wakefield; a sister, Mrs. Charles S. Harvell of Richmond; and a brother, R.M. Cobb Jr. of Wakefield. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Wakefield United Methodist Church by the Rev. J.M. Tongue. Burial will be Wakefield Cemetery. The family request that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the building fund of Wakefield United Methodist Church. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, is in charge.
