All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOHN BAPTIST CAFAZZA WAKEFIELD - John Baptist Cafazza Sr., 77, died Friday, April 6, in his home. A native of St. Louis, Mr. Cafazza retired as a self-employed cabinetmaker. He was a member of Wakefield United Methodist Church, president of the United Methodist Men and a teacher at the Adult Men’s Sunday school class. Mr. Cafazza was a well-known woodworker and musician and continued to play and compose ragtime piano music until his death. He shared his musical talent as a volunteer at the McGuire Veterans Administration Hospital in Richmond for many years. He was also instrumental in organizing a music program for the nursing home unit at the hospital. He was a member of the American Society of Composers and of Authors and Publishers since 1966, and was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Eloise Paulette Cafazza; a daughter, Martha C. Gordon of Emporia; two sons, Vincent Richard Cafazza of Fairmont, W.Va., and John Baptist Cafazza, Jr. of Midlothian; a sister, Antoinette Cafazza of St. Louis; and five grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in the church by the Revs. Jess V. Staton, Paul Kube and Robert Consolvo. Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery. The family request expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Wakefield United Methodist Church building Fund, Waverly Rescue Squad or Ivor Rescue Squad.
