MARY ELIZABETH CLARKE COOPER 

  WAKEFIELD - Mrs. Mary Clarke Cooper, 77, died in a Suffolk nursing home 
Sunday.

  She was a native of Surry County, and the widow of Devany Cooper.  She was 
a graduate of Longwood College, a former Surry County school teacher, and a 
member of the Chasley United Methodist Church.

  She is survived by a son, Robert D. Cooper of Suffolk; a brother, John T. 
Clarke of Waverly; and three grandchildren.

  A graveside funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Wakefield Cemetery 
by the Rev. L.P. Bland.

  The family will be at the Purviance Funeral Home in Wakefield from 7 to 8 
p.m. tonight.
