Mr. Cowling was a native of Sussex Co. and was a Deacon at Wakefield Baptist Church. He was a former sheet metal worked with the Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co., and a retired painting contractor. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Clarice C. Adkins and Mrs. Alyce C. Richardson both of Wakefield and Ms. Ann W. Cowling of Deize, S.C.; one sister, Mrs. Ruth C. Harlow of Va. Beach; 10 grandchildren; 8 great- grandchildren. A funeral was held on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. at Purviance Funeral Chapel and burial was at the Wakefield cemetery. The Rev. Barber Hooper officiated. Purviance Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Memorial donation can be made to Wakefield Baptist Church Harvest Fund.
