COWLING - LELIA MAY COWLING BY MR. AND MRS. B.E. COWLING, SR. James Everett Cowling (1860 - 1937) was a farmer and a resident of Cedar Sign Post Road, between Wakefield and Homeville, on a farm named Elm Grove - the driveway up to the house was lined with elm trees. He married Lelia May Wooten (1880 - 1955) in January 1897 at Barrett's Church. She was a homemaker. They had six children: the first child died at birth. The surviving children were Bina May Cowling Dunbar, Bernice Everett Cowling (the donor of the pew), Bessie Lee Cowling Brown, Harvey John Cowling, and Ella Ruth Cowling Harlowe. An interesting fact is that these six children all died in the same order in which they were born, first to last. They are buried in Wakefield Cemetery. Thanks to Alyce Cowling Richardson, granddaughter, and Larry Rogers, great- grandson, for the information and pictures.
