WAKEFIELD - Rupert Guy Carter, Jr., 75, passed away Feb. 8, 2009 at Southside Regional in Petersburg. Guy was born in Boykins on June 2, 1933, the only child of Rupert Carter and Florie Barnes Carter. He was a member of Newsoms United Methodist Church. He was a Wakefield resident for 45 years. Guy was drafted into the Army in 1953 and was stationed in Japan. He was an avid fisherman for years and a NASCAR follower. He began developing his woodworking skills some 20 years ago and delighted in making furniture for his family members. He was a member of the Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department in the mid 60’s. He was also a member of the Newsoms Ruritan Club, and when he moved to Wakefield in 1963, he transferred his membership to the Wakefield Ruritan Club and served as club president in 1970 and was named Ruritan of the Year in 1995. He leaves to cherish his memory has wife, Aldia Spiers Carter; a daughter, Karen C. Kingery and son-in-law Jeff of Bedford; two sons, John Roy Carter of Portsmouth, and Brian K. Carter of Southampton County; his beloved grandchildren, Robyn, Kristin and David Kingery, and Brittany Carter. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Purviance Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Wakefield. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at the Wakefield Cemetery. The family is being served by Purviance Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Wakefield.
