All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ DOROTHY VIRGINIA DEVANY DOROTHY DEVANY, 72, WAS FRENCH TEACHER NORFOLK, VA. - Dorothy Virginia Devany of 1342 Westover Ave., a teacher in Teaneck, N.J., for 27 years, died Thursday in Norfolk Hospital of injuries received when she was hit by a truck in front of her home the previous day. Miss Devany, 72, had been a resident here since 1965. Miss Devany, who was a graduate of St. Genevieve College and Columbia University Teacher College, taught French at Teaneck High School from 1938 until retiring in 1965. She also had taught at other schools in New Jersey. She sponsored the French Club at Teaneck High School and was active in the Teaneck College Club. Miss Devany had worked part time as a tour director for Brownell Tours. She did much traveling in Europe. She had done graduate work at the Serbonne in Paris. She had been a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Teaneck and recently had been president of the women’s auxiliary of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Norfolk. Among her survivors are two nephews, four nieces, and 14 grand-nephews and grand-nieces. A nephew, Edward Heath Devany, lives in Teaneck. Services and burial were Saturday in Wakefield, Va.
