All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ANNIE KATHRYN DAUGHTREY WAKEFIELD - Annie Kathryn "Kitty" Daughtrey, 80, died Tuesday, Jan 15, in Portsmouth General Hospital, Portsmouth. A native of Sussex County, Miss Daughtrey was the valedictorian of the class of 1928 at Wakefield High School. She attended Mary Washington College and taught in Virginia public schools for 43 years. During her teaching career, Miss Daughtrey taught in Whitestone and Montpelier and was a second-grand teacher in Port Norfolk Elementary School, Portsmouth, from 1941 until her retirement in 1973. She was a member of the Portsmouth Association of Classroom Teachers, Virginia Teachers Association and National Education Association. Miss Daughtrey was also was a member of Wakefield Congregational Christian Church and was a past member of Wakefield Woman’s Club. Survivors include a sister, Mary D. Griffin of Wakefield; a brother, Joseph M. Daughtrey of Wakefield; five nieces and ten great-nieces and nephews. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Purviance Funeral Home by the Rev. Parker Hooper. Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. The family request that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department, Wakefield, Va. 23888.
