Eggleston, 78, died Saturday, April 18, 1998. He was a native of Surry County and resided in Wakefield. He was a member of Rocky Hock United Methodist Church in Wakefield. Mr. Eggleston retired in 1975 as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was also a member and past master of Masonic Lodge No. 198, A.F. & A.M. in Wakefield. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Pursell Eggleston; three sons, Michael T. Eggleston of Wakefield, Robert E. Eggleston of Manteo, N.C., and Andrew Eggleston of Nashville, Tenn.; one stepson, Paul Pursell of Wakefield; two daughters, Patricia E. Allen of Polson, Mont., and Nancy E. Zych of Albuquerque, N.M.; two stepdaughters, Rosalyn P. Price of Christiansburg and Phyllis P. Fers of Wakefield; one sister, Lautin Ledford of Saluda; one brother, Joe Eggleston of Wakefield; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Murial O. Eggleston. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 25, at 1 p.m. in Rocky Hock United Methodist Church in Wakefield, with the Rev. C. Randolph Duncan officiating. Memorial may be made to the Waverly Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 318, Waverly, Va. 23890; or the Ivor Rescue Squad, Ivor, VA 12866. Arrangements by W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.
