MIRIAM LEE POND ELLIS 

  Mrs. Miriam Pond Ellis, 75, died Wednesday, May 2, at Johnston-Willis 
Hospital after a long illness.

  A native and lifelong resident of Sussex County, she was the daughter of 
Robert Lee and Jessie Council Pond.  She was a member of the Wakefield United 
Methodist Church and of D.A.R., Frances Bland Randolph Chapter, Petersburg. 
She attended Mary Baldwin College, Staunton.

  Survivors include her husband Col. Wilbur Russell Ellis of Waverly; two 
sons, Dr. Wilbur R. Ellis, Jr. of Salisbury, Md., and Lee Burt Ellis of 
Annandale; a daughter, Mrs. Emerson M. Babb of West Lafayette, Indiana; two 
sisters, Mrs. Virginius W. Hines of Wakefield and Mrs. Jessie S. Bass of 
Danville, and nine grandchildren.

  Funeral services were held at the Purviance Funeral Chapel in Wakefield 
Saturday, May 5, at 2:30 p.m. with burial at the Waverly Cemetery with Rev. 
R.L. Consolvo officiating.

  Pallbearers were Burch Redford, D.P. Chamblee, L. Ray Ashworth, Moyler 
Pond, Paul Babb, Emerson Babb, Virginius W. Hines and Kenneth Ellis, Jr.

  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Waverly 
Rescue Squad.
