He was born Aug. 9, 1950, the son of Merriel Hartman Fers, and the late Herbert Allen Fers. He had worked at the Airfield as Wildlife Manager for 19 years. Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters, Tonya D. Fers of Hopewell and Kristen N. Fers of Colonial Heights; two brothers, Larry C. Fers of Hopewell; and William G. of Chesterfield; two sisters, Crystal G. Boudreaux of Charlotte, N.C., and Regina L. Fers of New York; two stepdaughters, Karen S. Welch of Waverly and Donna S. Knecht of Elberon; and five grandchildren. Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at the Airfield 4-H Center with the Rev. Douglas Cotter officiating. Burial will be private. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, is in charge of the arrangements.
